Irish Goodbye

Image
We didn’t really intend to “ghost” on the blog, but as this method of taking off without warning is also known as an Irish Goodbye, it turned out to be quite fitting.  This blog has taken far TOO LONG to complete; it may read as such. Mitch here... and though we’ve been back in Canada for one full year , our adventure has not ended.  I may get into that later, but for now we want to recap the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland stint of our global tour.  We've been holding out for the Clam Chowder blog by the Mom's but that seems even less likely to come to fruition... So here goes our latest blog: We arrived in rainy Belfast from Edinburgh by air and took the bus to city centre.  We ran from central station to our AirBnB in the rain but strangely enough, this was the only day it rained during our two weeks on the little island in the northeast Atlantic.  We were greeted with hugs and Guinness' from our moms and proceeded to catch up over a nice pas...

‘Kinnear’ing the End

Hello, Bryn here. I’ve been procrastinating on this blog, as usual, however this one has been especially difficult to sit down and do. I have been trying to soak up every last minute as our time is quickly coming to an end (whaaaat)?! We last spoke from Split, Croatia, on our way to Amsterdam. I got a little too excited and the next morning took awhile to get going...We spent two full days there and explored the beautiful canal-lined streets ...

Hello! Mitchell here, to tell you about rally racing in Croatia. Okay, we were not really racing, but it seemed that everyone else on the road was! Speed limit signs are merely suggestions, speed camera warnings are only bluffs, and solid lines don’t mean a thing.  We started our 10-day Volkswagen Up! rental in the capital, Zagreb.  (Surprising side note: we saw more snakes in our first few days in Croatia than we had in all of our time spent in Australia and Southeast Asia combined! Vipers, mostly.) Fortunately for us, everything worth checking out in Croatia’s capital city was confined to a 3 block radius around the main square.  The highlight was definitely visiting the illusion museum, with dozens of eye-boggling photo ops and difficult puzzles (Speden would’ve loved it). We took our time south, into the mountains that boasted Plitvice Lakes National Park. We were more than a little unimpressed when it started to torrential downpour and there was ...
