Week 2: The Great Ocean Road & Beyond

Image
Hello! Mitchell here... The Great Ocean Road (GOR) for us began with some shopping in Torquay, namely for some surfing gear. This time of year, the conditions aren’t spectacular and though I was keen to catch some waves, we decided to put some road behind us. We made only a handful of stops for pics along the first section of the scenic GOR, but more or less headed to our first free campsite to make sure we managed to lock down a spot for dinner. These sites are first come, first served, and being our first night on our own in the camper, we didn’t want to risk it.  We got one of the last two spots as we rolled in just before 5pm; however, even though there are a (suggested) number of spots, by the time morning had rolled around, that number had seemingly tripled. We quickly made habit of getting up early for breakfast before trying to beat the busy crowds to the tourist hotspots. First stop on day two was just across the highway from our camp spot and a nice short stair walk to Es...

Week 1: Van, Japan & Melbourne

Hi everyone, Bryn here! So sorry for the delay in posting but we have had a busy first week. Long flights, lots of walking, and figuring out how to drive on the ‘wrong’ side of the road. Things I noticed: 1) It’s so clean! Mitchell got an ice cream cone and we were scared we weren’t allowed to eat on the streets. 2) Everyone was...

It has been a while since our last post and though we haven’t leapt the Pacific Ocean, yet, we have been finished work for 2 weeks and enjoying our time in beautiful British Columbia. Lots of driving! From Prince George, our first stop was in Merritt (country music capital of Canada) for Bryn’s highly anticipated 30th birthday and Christmas. After a few nights there, we drove to Nelson making sure that we stopped in Grand Forks for a visit with the Grey family. Mitch, Bryn, Tatum, Robyn, Matt & Summer (not shown: Meow Mix & Tucker) Nelson—more accurately, South Slocan—entailed getting all the Bourne’s together for a nice dinner and working on puzzles with a few beverages.  Additionally, we took advantage of the time off to get some more travel necessities in order. And just because we could, we decided to make a trip to Fernie to meet up with Eden Lin and Spencer Bourne for New Year’s Eve festivities, including an extreme snowshoe up Mount Fernie...
