Na-mastay in Ko Tao

Hello! Bryn here. Last time we left you we were in Chang Dao in Northern Thailand. We are now on Ko Tao in the south. I’ll fill you in on the in between... We made our way to Pai (pronounced ‘bye’ not ‘pie’) after 762 winding, narrow, terrifying, often hairpin turns. Mitch had a big grin on his face the whole time (he was driving) as I think he pictured himself as a mariocart character; I was just trying not to throw up. The booking.com app pulled through again and we settled into a very cute little bungalow just outside of town. [When we first started the trip we thought we would be using more hostels, however, it seems to work out about the same to get a private room or bungalow for two people]. Pai is small (about the size of the Bench for those Merrittonians), but has a very cool vibe with more restaurants and bars than one could possibly visit in one stay.  Mitch’s favourite spot in Pai. I had done some reading and one of the recommended things to do in Pai was to take a...

Sawadee Krup! Mitch here.     W at Rong Khun (White Temple) Okay, Bryn figures it’s about time for another blog update; I feel that we still have a bit more adventuring to do to justify another post... but I do as I’m told.  Currently, we are at Cat Bar in Chiang Rai watching an ignorant, drunk “forang” be surrounded by lady boys at the bar across the street. Here’s how we got here: We left the Gold Coast on the last possible train to the airport, which meant we were about 4 hours early for our 2:30am flight with Emirates.  On the positive tip, we were able to find some comfy couches to sleep on for a couple of hours before boarding our more or less empty plane to Singapore.  As such, we were able to get a significant amount of sleep in this haul between legs of our trip and landed in Bangkok with some life left in us. Bryn’s family friend, Gerard, rescheduled his flights to meet us in Bangkok so we could spend the night at their sweet ap...

6 Weeks; 4000km; 3 Blue bottle stings; 14 generous friends; 1 broken surf board; 50+ salt water nasal flushes; 0 sunburns (!); 20 meat pies; 5 excess leters of oil; ZERO snakes! A final G’Day from Aus. Bryn here. Wow. I can’t believe the first part of our trip is already over. Australia was absolutely incredible and exceeded our expectations so much that we have already planned  out our next trip. We might have to get a bit bigger rig next time, though, if we happen to have a couple bipedal land mammals by then. We are currently sitting at the Changi Airport in Singapore waiting for our flight to Bangkok, after a red eye flight from Brisbane. Needless to say we are a bit tired but I will do my best to summarize our last few days in Oz-land before we start the next journey. The majority of our time was spent in Byron Bay, Gold Coast, and Brisbane. We did our best to get in as much surfing and shark-buscuiting (body boarding) as we could before returning them to previous/new owners. ...

The Quest for Surf

Well hello, Mitchell here... Another week has come and gone and it saddens me to say that we only have 9 more epic days of Australia remaining.  Regardless, the good times keep rolling on and I’ll fill you in on last week: Bryn and I spent 3 nights in Port Macquarie, parked in the Foy’s carport. We rolled in early Saturday afternoon and made sure to swing by the Koala Hospital for the tour.  It was a very happy yet sad place to be, as the koalas we all saw were all ‘permanent care’ due to various things like blindness (due to chlamydia), amputations and brain injuries. They are all in good care and although peculiar creatures, koalas are undeniably adorable. I could tell you some cool facts about them but I encourage you to check it out and I’ll carry on... Candace, Mike, Connor and Katie Foy (former Creston BC residents) were very welcoming of us into their home and extraordinary hosts.  Candace and Katie met up with us in the CBD before convoy touring us around to...
