Week 2: The Great Ocean Road & Beyond

Image
Hello! Mitchell here... The Great Ocean Road (GOR) for us began with some shopping in Torquay, namely for some surfing gear. This time of year, the conditions aren’t spectacular and though I was keen to catch some waves, we decided to put some road behind us. We made only a handful of stops for pics along the first section of the scenic GOR, but more or less headed to our first free campsite to make sure we managed to lock down a spot for dinner. These sites are first come, first served, and being our first night on our own in the camper, we didn’t want to risk it.  We got one of the last two spots as we rolled in just before 5pm; however, even though there are a (suggested) number of spots, by the time morning had rolled around, that number had seemingly tripled. We quickly made habit of getting up early for breakfast before trying to beat the busy crowds to the tourist hotspots. First stop on day two was just across the highway from our camp spot and a nice short stair walk to Es...

Week 1: Van, Japan & Melbourne

Hi everyone, Bryn here! So sorry for the delay in posting but we have had a busy first week. Long flights, lots of walking, and figuring out how to drive on the ‘wrong’ side of the road. Also, Mitchell and I have been having a heck of a time trying to get these photos to upload... captions are there but photos have yet to come. We started the journey from Vancouver, after a night with some physio friends and, as always, great hospitality at the Shack (which will be no longer when we return 😢). Our flights were about 9 hours each with a stop in Narita, Japan. I highly recommend Japan Airlinea as the food was great and even catered to this glutard!  I was quickly labelled We had 19 hours in Japan and though it was the middle of the night for us, we fought through the fatigue and hopped on the train to check out some of Narita. Things I noticed: 1) It’s so clean! Mitchell got an ice cream cone and we were scared we weren’t allowed to eat on the streets. 2) Everyone was...

Winter Highways & Playgrounds

It has been a while since our last post and though we haven’t leapt the Pacific Ocean, yet, we have been finished work for 2 weeks and enjoying our time in beautiful British Columbia. Lots of driving! From Prince George, our first stop was in Merritt (country music capital of Canada) for Bryn’s highly anticipated 30th birthday and Christmas. After a few nights there, we drove to Nelson making sure that we stopped in Grand Forks for a visit with the Grey family. Mitch, Bryn, Tatum, Robyn, Matt & Summer (not shown: Meow Mix & Tucker) Nelson—more accurately, South Slocan—entailed getting all the Bourne’s together for a nice dinner and working on puzzles with a few beverages.  Additionally, we took advantage of the time off to get some more travel necessities in order. And just because we could, we decided to make a trip to Fernie to meet up with Eden Lin and Spencer Bourne for New Year’s Eve festivities, including an extreme snowshoe up Mount Fernie...

Temporarily Out of Office

สวัสดี ,  Χαίρετε, Helló, zdravo, Dia dhuit, G'day Mate! Hi Everyone! Mitchell and I have been getting a lot of questions about our blog address for our upcoming adventure so we thought we would get the link out there before we head home for the holidays. Some of you may have no idea what we are doing and why, so let me review the events leading to our temporary 'retirement.' Mitch and I moved up to Prince George two years ago to start our careers as Physiotherapists; many friends and even family asked 'why?' and at that point the answer was very simple: student loans. Oy vey. We put our heads down, worked hard, and guess what... met amazing people and actually really enjoyed our time. [Now you may be asking what does this have to do with that gibberish you posted at the top? Ok let me try and get on with this; there is a purpose to my rambling]. Our focus changed a few times throughout the two years and at one point we had our heart set on sav...
